ART 101: Writer's Workshop

Find creative inspiration through the Museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions. Led by celebrated local writers, this series of workshops uses art as a starting point for writing original pieces. Participants explore the elements of writing and experience works of art through a different lens. Led by children’s picture book author and illustrator, Kathryn Otoshi; this workshop will include a reading and presentation of her character-building books: ZERO, ONE and BEAUTIFUL HANDS. Otoshi will share her creative writing and illustration process, show how books can help inspire compassion and kindness towards others during challenging times, and demonstrate how art, even done virtually, can become a true community building experience. 

Families and kids will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation. This presentation will be followed up with a fun, creative art activity that the entire family can enjoy doing together based on Otoshi’s books.   

$15 ($10 Members). Workshops are designed for all skill levels; this program is recommended for children ages 5 and up along with an accompanying adult side-kick. This virtual workshop will take place over ZOOM; advance registration is required. The workshop fee includes a single Museum visit anytime during open hours (Friday – Sunday, 11am–5pm).

Visit the exhibitions South East North West and Barring Freedom beforehand for inspiration around the themes of self-esteem, standing-up and community-building; don’t forget to bring your choice of coloring materials, pen, paper, scissors so that you can enjoy the creative art activity with your little one on workshop day.
