Curator's Workshop: Big Data with Rory Padeken
This event is no longer on sale.
By 2025, data creation, capture, and replication are estimated to grow to 175 zettabytes* (one zettabyte contains 1021 bytes or 1 followed by 21 zeroes!). Collecting this data happens on an astronomical scale. Facilitated by a web of interconnected objects with data management and analysis software, big data is computed, sorted, and adopted for use by corporations and governments in a range of applications.
Big data means big business.
Join SJMA Curator Rory Padeken as he muses on the topic of big data at the intersection of art and technology. In a world of digital transformation where the sharing of images, thoughts, and ideas might mean the loss of the self, how does an artist’s approach to data offer a set of values or even a picture of the world that may remind us what it means to be human again?
